Social Networks

I had never thought of using social networks such as facebook for business purposes. i am amazed at the way libraries are able to use all the technologies we have explored. Promotion, communication, sharing information, pictures and audio.

Online applications and tools

I knew that there were free applications for creating documents available on the internet however i didnt know about these ones and i didnt know that they worked so well. they are great i love the idea of more than one person being able to colaborate on the doccuments.

Mashups

i use google maps alot. i really enjoyed playing with Big Huge labs, this is a great tool to help create promotional material alter images and add information to images.

Podcasts and Audio

Podcasts are a great way to interact and disseminate information to people with visual difficulties. i subscribe to podcasts and use them to keep up to date with information from musical instrument suppliers. in libraries podcasts could be used to give examples from new audio books.

Answer boards

i have used answer boards as a starting spot to find information. however i always try to confirm the answers from more reputable sources. i do like the fact that it is quick easy way to exchange information in a non formal way eg. without the technical language. answer boards can also connect people that have similar experiences or difficulties. in a library situation i can see how it would be useful in answering reference enquires. it would also be a usefull tool to gather feedback and answer questions that are often repeated.

Tagging, folksonomies, delicious and LibraryThing

i already use LibraryThing it makes it easy for me to see what i already have on my shelf and what i dont where ever i am. Delicious is a great way to have access to your bookmarks and also see what other people have bookmarked on similar subjects this is a good way to discover new sites. as for Technorati what is the point of a blog if nobody reads it.
